I use them exclusively, although I have XP installed in a virtual environment to check pages. Need to get Windows 7 also.
I've got a Mini w/ 5GB ram and a MacBook Pro w/ 4GB ram. Need a Mac with more speed, but that's neither here nor there. Don't we all?
Anyone use Macs?

We've got an entire building full of them at VT. They call it the "Math Emporium".

Evil, evil place. Many hours of my freshman and sophomore years of college were wasted doing homework there.
Another view to show you how huge that place really is: http://www.roaminggecko.com/my_content/ ... h36m06.jpg
I was looking at a Macbook Pro a few months ago, but I realized I could get a Dell with better specs for $1000 less. Windows 7 is still kinda a pain sometimes, but it's a definite improvement over XP and that awful crap they called Vista.
I wouldn't trade my iPhone for anything, though - I love it!

I have been using macs since the powermac G3 came out and have not looked back. I even hackintoshed my Lenovo X61 which was awesome and very easy. I am an IT Technician by day so having to support windows at work all day and then having to deal with it at home is just no something I want to do. I will say this though, Windows 7 is a huge improvement.

Hi, my handle is VCA, and I have a problem--I am a Mac addict.
It started innocently enough in my undergrad years with an 800MHz iBook G4, which I bought as a toy. Almost 10 Macs later, I've converted my family to the church of Mac, become a technical consultant dealing heavily with Macs (whereas before I was strictly Windows/UNIX only), and now have 3 Macs that get used in my business/school/personal life: the current Air (13"/2.13GHz/4GB RAM/256GB SSD), the current MacBook Pro (2.2 Core i7, 15" HR AG display, 256GB SSD), and a Mac Pro (mid 2010, Westmere X5650, 12 core, 24GB RAM). I use VMWare heavily in my work, and Fusion has been a wonderful part of my workflow--but even though I spend all day mostly dealing with PCs, at the end of the day, I go home to a computer that works.

I had an Apple IIe for a while but I gave up on Apple after I was one of maybe 10 people in the world to buy an Apple III a few weeks before the original Macintosh came out.
I really should have saved those old things - I see they are collectible now along with my old Commodore VIC 20 and C64. I actually had an original IBM PC along with the expansion chassis to add the hard drive - I think it was a 10 MB drive that was a double height 5 1/4" drive
I have, for the most part, also given up on Microsoft. There are certain programs that I must run (trivial stuff like billing and taxes) under Windows and unfortunately I can't get VADIS to run under the Wine Windows emulator but other than that I'm a Linux guy.

Some blog said it well a few months ago while explaining the recent Macintosh popularity: (summarizing) People use Windows at work. They don't want to come home and have to use it there also.
Mac Pro (mid 2010, Westmere X5650, 12 core, 24GB RAM)
Dude, that's horsepower.
I have an old 2003 dual G5 Mac Pro I've been considering gutting and making into a Frankenmac with PC parts: fast processors, fast video, cheap ram, etc. and run the hacked version of OS X on it. It's supposed to be not that hard of a feat. Hell, I ran a jailbroken gen 1 iPhone with T-Mobile for a year+ back in 2008. I should be able to do it.
I'm on my 8th or 9th Mac, started in winter 1991 / 1992 with a Mac LC, 4MB ram.
I've been using Dropbox to sync my web development (Sites) folder between two Macs and it works pretty well. Free also.

This is exactly why I switched years ago. I am an IT Pro for a medical company from 9 to 5 so when I work the forums at night, the last thing I want to be on is a windows computer. I do have a file/media server that runs server 2008 R2 and a windows laptop from work, but I would never buy a windows computer ever again.matthew1 wrote:Some blog said it well a few months ago while explaining the recent Macintosh popularity: (summarizing) People use Windows at work. I act as our tech support person for work as well - and I've got to say it's more often the programs written for Windows more than the OS itself that's crap. I mean, yes, I hate Windows sometimes too...but it's easy to get used to and figure out how to do almost everything pretty easily. It's crappy programs like MS Outlook, ArcGIS, Powerpoint (I CANT STAND Powerpoint), and AutoCAD that do it in and crash. Multi-tasking is Windows' huge performance barrier - that is MUCH better on newer versions than it was on XP; I'm regularly complaining about my work computer when I have tons of things open.
From a multi-tasking standpoint, Apple's OS is awesome. I've rarely seen it lag on the iMacs I've used, even running memory-hog 3D design applications with SolidWorks or AutoCAD.
My work computer is a 2.93 Ghz Core 2 Duo with 4 gb of RAM and XP (for support purposes), but my Windows 7 Laptop with a 2.4 Ghz i5 will blow it out of the water in how fast it gets things done. 7 really was a big improvement (although I already did have to re-format the thing because it was annoying me at taking 10+ minutes to start up), and the i3/i5/i7 Intel chip line was a HUGE improvement over the Core 2 Duo systems like this one.
Maybe my next computer will be a Mac. I'm waiting on them to catch up on the specs of the Macbook Pro - for $2000, I sure as hell want more than an outdated, slow 512MB graphics card. I love the iPhone and will absolutely buy the next generation when my contract is up.

I do agree that the programs are a huge issue and is post of the problem with windows. I do also agree that Windows 7 was a huge upgrade from XP and I do not mind using windows 7 at work. Of coarse, we are still primarily a windows xp environment so I still have to deal with the head aches.
Overall, I still like the MAC better.
