green wire next to starter

Post by angelglo »

im almost done putting in another motor for my 97 850 glt. it has 58,000 miles on it from a 98 v70. while connecting all the vacuum lines and wiring, there is one that i cant seem to find where it belongs. it is a green wire with a spade connector. it is located right by the starter leads. its pretty short, only about 2-3 inches long so there cant be many places it can go but i dont see where the other half is. can someone please advise me to where it belongs. im positive that this wire belongs to this motor since the newer motor i got also came with a wiring harness and that too has the green wire.

thanks in advance.

ok,

im done putting in the replacement engine and im ready to start it. i charged the battery and went to start it but it doesnt crank. im sure it has something to do with the green wire but i cant seem to remember where it goes. can someone take a look at the starter and see where it goes.

thanks

ok. thanks for the info. so im assuming just below where the battery cable is on the solinoid. i took the battery cables off and i dont see any male spade connectors are. i do see an area where the short white wire is that goes to the actual starter from the solinoid. above the white wire is a metal piece. this might look like where it used to belong and if it is, the male spade part is broken off. if this is where it goes, i will adapt it to the bolt where the white wire is but i need to be sure.

so, does the gree wire connect to the hot lead of the solinoid or the other bolt with the white wire.

again, thanks for all the help. i really want to get this vovlo start.

i connected the green wire to the solinoid to the bolt furtherest away from the radiator. there are two bolts. the one closest to the radiator has the two red positive wires along with the other wire which i believe is grey with a black stripe. the other bolt has the green wire with a white one going to the actuator on the starter itself.

is this correct?

having it wired this way, my starter spins but it doesnt engage the starter gear. i can hear it spinning when i turn the key. it is just not engaging.

can someone PLEASE advise? i would like to get this thing moving.

thanks

ok. as jot had posted, the green wire does connect to the the bottom art of the solinoid. you can not see it from the top side of the motor. i actually took the start off because i thought that i might have a bad starter. when i pulled it off, there it was. the spade connector that i was looking for. thanks jot.

after i got it connected, it started right up.

thanks
