Oil and Filter Change How-To (S80 1G and other P2 Cars)

Good post!I'm convinced that cars which end up with sludge problems are serviced at incompetent garages or quick changes that(1)don't have the wrench for the filter and just say they changed it or(2)don't completely drain the oil to allow the contaminants to flow out as in the way sugar settles to the bottom of a glass of tea ie;they slap the plug in while oil is still running out in the intrest of getting to the next job.I actually wander off for ten or fifteen minutes.DBULL

Nice post and pictures, I was having problems getting the filter cover off as well and, after using a strap wrench to get the cover off decided to make my own socket wrench. I modified a common plastic socket wrench which you can purchase at your local auto parts store which is over sized and will not fit snugly. Using a discarded plastic container, such as small sour cream or, cottage cheese container which, I have found very useful when working with fiberglass resin since, the resin does not stick to this kind of plastic. Inserted the newly purchased stock plastic filter socket filter side up so the edges would fit tight inside the plastic container, so resin will not leak around the outer edge. Using some masking tape covered the square hole where the ratchet wrench fits. Placed the filter cover in the center of the plastic socket and weighted it down with some hardware, anything will do screws, nails, nuts, washers ect...just so it will not float off the surface of the plastic filter socket when the resin is poured. Mixed up a suitable amount of resin in another plastic container, poured around the filter cover to the desired height which was about two and a half inches or, 2.54 x's that cm. Mixing the resin with a pretty hot mix waited for about twenty MIN and, wiggled the filter cover free. Waited another twenty MIN popped the filter wrench free from the container sanded the edges with my belt sander removed the tape and let set overnight to harden, hence one custom made four dollar filter wrench.
