1990 Volvo Taillights Innop

My girlfriends 1990 Volvo 240 DL's taillights have become innop. We installed new taillight bulbs, only for them to burn out as soon as the veh started. I would think that the bulbs are getting too many volts, however that's what the circuit breaker is for. Should i be on the look out for shorted wires, bad circuits, relays, etc?

I guess that you have got 6 volt bulbs by misstake. Not any fault, real or theoretical fault can make a 12 volt bulb to burn out in a very short time. The bulbs should be 12 volt and the battery is 12 volt and the alternator is 12 volt. It does not exist any higher voltage! If you had burned out bulbs after some hours it could have been caused of bad regulator in the alternator giving maybe 16 volt, but that should be burning out the headlight bulbs first, they are more sencitive to over voltage.

You asked about the cirkuit breakers, thoose are just for protecting the wires from overcurrent. Overcurrent will otherwise burn the wire. Get correct bulbs, read on them that they are really stamped 12V.

maybe you just got some bad bulbs, it happens. try again buy your bulbs from another store.
