Good afternoon forum,
On my 1998 S 70 T5, should I be getting 12 V at the purge valve with the key on or does the engine need to be running?
If I am getting 12 V, assuming then that the solenoid is OK, and the rubber tubes/hoses look OK, should I just pull and check the purge valve?
I have read thecheat's procedure in this forum for doing this - thank you.
BTW, where is the purge valve solenoid located on this vehicle?
This is my first attempt at messing with this system, so any other tips or suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks to all

For a P0455 code, I'd actually start looking at the lines themselves - especially the ones at the charcoal canister.
Depending on what they decided to do with your '98 (they're all different), it's either in front of the right rear tire on its side, or up in front of the left wheel in the fender liner.
Purge valve is on the radiator just in front of the battery.

You can see it hiding here at the bottom left of the picture. Yours may be either squarish like mine, or some have a round one.

I have the cannister on it's side, inside the right rear wheel. There is a round valve next to it - is this just a check valve?
Also, there is square valve on the radiator as you indicated. Coming out of the square valve is a T with a small tube going into the intake manifold and a larger tube going under the throttle assembly. I can see a small crack in the cut end of the larger tube at the T, but the crack does not extend past the bubble flare of the T. By this I mean that yes the hose should be replaced, but does not look to be the immediate problem.

That's the rollover shut-off valve by the canister. Try some duct tape around the hose as a temporary solution, but I don't think that's it either.
The hose at 0:33 is what you should look at first.

Thanks for the video. I already looked at that hose, but didn't take it off yet. I am going to take another look with better light and a mirror. I am getting the "gross leak" condemnation which sounds like maybe more than a cracked hose.

Well, the J hose going from the cannister to the roll over valve still looks OK, but checking the other hose which right angles off the roll over valve and goes back to the gas tank and WTF
large split found where this hose clamps onto what looks like a hard plastic hose going back into the gas tank.
It's of course in a fun to reach area accessible only by spider monkey
(above the stabilizer arms and surrounded by fuel lines).
I am going to get the replacement hose and
see if I can wrangle a lift somewhere and will report back after I get it replaced.
Thanks for listening

Hey all, just an update/closure to this post. The culprit was the 1/2 inch J hose which goes from the rollover valve to the 3/8 inch overflow/spill tube which goes to the gas fill well. Dealer wanted $ 28 for the new hose, so I just cut off the split end and added on a new piece with a straight barbed connector. Disconnected/reconnected the battery and went for the inspection.
My old '98 passed with no issues!
Good to go for another year!
