High Pitch Noise from Engine Bay

Post by mendez_joshua »

My Volvo recently started making a high pitched humming noise. Originally I though it was coming from the serpentine belt, but after further investigation I realized it wasn't. When I took of the oil cap it stopped. Not I think it may be a stuck breather vale some where. I don't know where they would be or how you would check it see if it is working properly. Could I be wrong and it be something with the turbo?

the diaphragm in the crankcase breather assembly is cracked and full vacuum is being applied to crankcase. Noise is kazoo noise as iar is being sucked in through seals on camshafts and maybe crank seals too.
Unless the way the part is offered has changed, you will have to replace the oil filter housing as the crankcase breather system in integrated with it.

So I have replaced the crank case breather tube that slides down near the oil filter. The noise came back though. I saw a recall in a PCV Valve but dont see any diagrams on where it is or how to replace it.

It was the pcv. The local dealer didnt want to do it or give me a loaner car. I went to Rockville MD. The dealershipe there was very nice, checked it free, and fixed it the same day. I got the loaner car for a few hours while they repaired it.
