1990 240 DL sedan: where is the fuel pump relay?

Post by signofthetimes »

hi,
i've got a 1990 240 DL volvo that has been intermittently deciding not to start. every few days i'll go to start it and it will just turn over and over. sometimes it shakes a bit and acts like it might start, but then it doesn't. i'm away at college at the moment, but my mechanic from back home sent me a fuel pump relay. he thought i might be able to replace that sometime when it wasn't starting and see if that was the problem. i cant seem to find where this part is located on my car, however. the diagram i have shows that it is somewhere up under the left driver's side air vent. i wedged myself on the floor by the pedals and used a flashlight to look around up there, but i couldn't locate it. there is a similar white box more towards the floor and pedals, but that box seems to be a different size and shape than the one i have. any suggestions on how i might be able to locate this part in order to change it? thanks.
clueless about cars,
kate

if it is the same as my 1988 240 dl it is on the passenger side. Pull back the rug by the passengers feet and look up. On the right you will see the main computer for the car and a little to the left you will see a large white relay. There you go!

I believe it should be in the same place as the 87 240 - on a right hand drive - behind the glove box passenger side and to the left - can be access through panel below glove box.

RAC located mine.
