HELP! DISTRIBUTOR/HALL SENSOR '85 760TURBO

Post by turbo no/go »

yesterday i took off my distributor to get a closer look at my hall sensor, as well as the rotor and cap condition.i got the wiring back in place for the hall sensor and dried them, some oil had found it's way back there over the years and with the heat had worn down the wiring harness.i replaced the rotor and cleaned the cap,put it all back together and now the car won't stay running. it will crank strong every time, but then immediatly shuts itself off.HELP! what did i possibly do wrong.i remembered the location of the original rotor when i took it off,the engine was never turned or bumped while the distributor was off so it should go back in the same way right.(B230F TURBO engine, 4cyl.2.3L gas) the distributor is mounted on the back/top of the engine.it went in with no problem once i got the 2 'teeth' lined up. i marked all wires so i know the plugs are right. if it was a timing thing it would even crank would it?what do i check? :?: :?: :?:

i found out it was the wiring for the hall sensor that was un-repairable.I took my distributor back off and the sensor wiring is the only thing that looks suspect. i got lucky and found a used distributor for $69.00 including shipping. (versus $280.00 + new) w/ a 60 day exchange warranty.i have a new ballast resistor on the way as well, so i hope problem solved. :D
