My 2006 S60 is at the shop with the same problem. Oil in coolant reservoir, but no coolant in the crankcase. No loss of power, no smoke, no over heating, no funny noises or smells. Noticed a leak coming from coolant reservoir that looked like chocolate milk. Any suggestions?

I had the oil cooler tested a second time at a high PSI this time it leaked at around 80 PSI the first time tested it @ 50 PSI and it did not leak. I took it to a Shop Called Costa Mesa R&D and John the owner tested it at a safe psi (50psi) which yielded a working cooler which did not leak.. spent more $ for a second test at a higher psi and it showed a failure in the cooler.

DO:
Replace the oil cooler take out the thermostat run it because there is oil residue inside the system. A couple flushes later all is good. you'll probably see residue in the system (expansion tank) drive it for a couple weeks flush it and in a month or two you'll be confident your problem is resolved.

The s60 never overheated, keep a good idel..oil cooler..replace it with a BEHR cooler.

You need to find the source of the oil in the coolant, there are several possible sources and most of them require the head to come off to repair. Ed is probably right that it is nothing more than a head gasket, but it could be more sinister such as valve guide seals, internal crack in the head etc. Hopefully you can take the head off and confirm that the head gasket is the cause.

the flush chemical of choice to get oil out of cooling systems is Cascade auto dishwasher powder or gel.
It gets the oil and will rinse cleanly out. The xc90 v8's had oil cooler failures in the earliest engines and that is what was used to get the milkshakes out of the cooling system.

Well i seem to have to same issue, same color trany oil even my coolant color became darker, and to my surprise, Volvo s60 radiator have transmission oil going trough the radiator, even if mine looks like new, even though there's no leak, the radiator might fail internally and cause this issue, i"m being very care full with the transmission, its not slipping but noticed kickbacks and sluggish performance.

Also im inquiring on AT cooler you guys are blogging about, but chances are its the RAD.
