Brake lights come on by themselves

Post by S70 Guy »

My rear brake lights come on by themselves. when I park, naturally the last thing i do is stop (put my foot on the brake), sometimes when i get out i notice the rear brake lights ae still on. I just push the peddle a few times until it goes out. Lately after i park and make sure the brake lights are out, when i come put the sore or where-ever they have come back on!
This time of year could be bad on the battery. Any ideas!!!!!!!!!

I would say almost immediately that the stop light switch is failing

When ever you press the brake pedal the bedal does activate a switch. if that switch gets dirty or sticky this may result. So if you have a DIY manual like Haynes (not sure about Chiltons) it does describe how to replace it.

Then again, it could be some sort of electrical short at the switch...

Hmmm... Could that be causing this?

The switch is under the brake pedal. See if it's touching the pedal even when the pedal is up. In that case, adjust it down a smidgen.

OK, will do if it warms up a little this weekend. The high mount brake light does come on, however, so we'll see. Worth a shot. Thanks for the suggestion.
