Engine Cooling Fan never comes on
Engine Cooling Fan never comes on
I have a 2001 V70 t5 and the engine cooling fan does not come on. I noticed in the fall that when I got out of the car the fan wqas still running which I never noticed before. Also my A/C blows cold air for about 10-15 minutes then shuts off. I have popped the hood and noticed that the engine area gets very hot but the fan does not turn on. I have monitored the temp guage but the needle sits in the middle of the guage and never higher. Any thoughts what is wrong?

The fan ob that car is fully controlled by the engine computer. The fan has a module integrated with it that has a single wire that is the signal wire.
The fan should run if the car is sitting still with a/c on and outside temp is 80F or higher.
The fan on that car may be covered by a recall. You might call a dealer with your VIN and ask for them to check for open recalls.

I had the opposite happen to me on our 2001 v70. Fan continued to run after car was turned off. It ran for over 2 hrs, plenty of time to cool down, so I disconnected the battery and reconnected thinking maybe would reset. Did not work. Found the plug right above the fan to unplug it. Next morning with out even starting the car plugged in the fan and still ran. Took it to the dealer they said I needed a new fan. I asked why a new fan this fan works!!! Anyway after $500 I have a new fan. So apparently you can't just replace a sensor its the whole fan.
