WTB Volvo 240 Diesel Wagon

I know these can be tricky to find, and I know they're slow, but I live in the Portland, OR area and am looking for a diesel 240 wagon. I'm willing to travel for the right car... any leads appreciated.

Do we have any Volvo in Diesel at all? Are they selling new Diesel cars in US? From what I am aware of is only MB,VW and Audi have heart or engines to sell Diesel! Am I wrong? or it is just on descrete of manufacturer that they are not willing to make any Diesel cars as they think that tUS dont have enough market to suffice to make them??

No Volvo diesels for YEARS and yes to the second question but they may come in a year or two.
Volvo is just too small a company to spend the couple of million to EPA a car for a handful of sales.

Diesels are still just not that popular here. Stations are not that plentiful, etc plus diesel fuel costs a small furtune in the states
Our refineries are not geared up to make diesel

yeah but if you do a veggie conversion and work at a restaurant you're in WVO heaven...

They exist, and I wish you the best of luck in finding them. If I remember correctly, Volvo just bought small diesel engines from VW and tucked them under the hood so there's certainly nothing special about them.

Have you looked for Mercedes 300TD wagons? These are WAY more common, I've always LOVED their looks and their longevity is unquestionable. While they are often sold for reasonable money, there are also excellent examples like this one - http://bringatrailer.com/2010/12/12/bat ... enz-300td/ - or this one - http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1984-Mer ... 456wt_1172 - that may make a lot of sense to get started with a top-notch car prior to conversion. Sure, you pay more now, but it sounds like you'll be running on FREE FUEL!

Anyhow, my name's OJ, and I support WVO conversions on well-kept classic diesels.

have been having difficulties finding a newer MB with a stick... I know this sounds ridiculous but all the wagons I've seen are auto trans and that's totally a deal-breaker for me.

Oh, yeah... manual... good luck with that! I'm not even sure MB ever made the 300TD in manual - maybe not even in europe! The MB 240D came in manual regularly enough, but not in wagon form. Being in/around Chicago, I never even think of manual as an option. Out by you, the stop-and-go's probably pretty scarce so it'd make a bunch of sense there.
