A good OBD II for Volvo cars

Post by xzw6zc »

Hi,

I am lookinf for a OBD II scanner for 2003 Volvo S60 to detect engine/transmission/emission problems and possible solutions.
Does any Volvo Forum user know a good model for domestic and imported cars? Thanks! xzw6zc

Good or cheap :-) I have an Actron (search this site) that I got for $29 or $39 and it's good. Simple, durable, idiot-proof.

I used to have a laptop + software serial-to-OBDII port adaptor and it was too much. Not too much money, just too much overload.

My Actron and any reader you buy reads OBDII codes, which is a standard set used all over the world. Volvo, in addition, has more specific codes but you need an expensive reader to get to them.
Help keep MVS on the web -> click sponsors' links here on MVS when you buy from them.

Also -> Amazon link
. Click that when you go to buy something on Amazon and MVS gets a cut!

The "less expensive" readers will get you engine and (most) emission codes. I doubt any will get you transmission codes. Maybe someone else knows for sure, but I think that's a different attachment (plug-in) point and sets of codes.
