scraping/ noise coming from front tires during a sharp turn

Post by Susan Bailey »

I joined this list hoping to read that others had experienced this problem and could tell me why it is happening. I had this problem almost immediately after purchasing the car.

The car is a 2005 S60 with 19K. The second time I took it to the dealership with this problem they told me my steering stops was worn out and they replaced them. The sound is gone. Why would steering stops wear out with less than 20K on the car???

Think you'll find soon enough this is a design fault...and I'm sure others will post saying they have the same issue.
If you have the Sports pack ( 18inch) wheels it's even worse.

If you have the 17" wheels at full lock with a little body roll you'll find the tires are rubbing the arch. The steering bump stops can be changed/moved...it may stop the scraping but steering lock will be even worse than it is now!

It's no comfort but try to avoid full lock anyway as the power steering is trying to go further than it can..which causes premature wear.

I'm surprise Volvo didn't mention it.

Viper is right. I haven't read this problem on a 05 model yet, only on earlier models. Volvo is changing the ends but the turning radius gets even worse. Is your Volvo equiped with the sports package? Other Volvo owners observed that by changing Pirelli's with Michelin the problem disappeared.
