Can someone tell me how do you replace or clean the PCV filter? I dont even see where it is on the car

thanks

Also anyone know how to reset the TPS? I am trying to see why i am not getting full boost. I have a 98 XC

By TPS, I presume you mean throttle position sensor? You can't really reset it per se. Full boost is most likely do to the car being in limp mode (got a lambda light on?) or a boost leak most likely due to a torn IC hose.

These cars don't have the traditional PCV valve that opens and closes w/ varying levels of crankcase pressure, but instead have a PCV "box". There's no reason to service it unless you have the signs of a clogged system (excessive oil consumption, oil vapors coming from dipstick tube while engine is running and dipstick is removed).

I disagree....even with no visible signs the PCV system (hoses from bottom fo intake hose to oil trap under intake manifold and hose back up to top of engine and a couple of other hoses) can begin to get clogged up. Worst case is excessive pressure and blown rear seal. When I called fcpgroton.com to buy their "kit" for my car, I was told that routinely all of these hoses including the oil separator (trap) are replaced at around 100K miles. I think this is excellent preventative maitenance, although a real pain to do. If you decide to do this job, count on a day to do it and buy an intake manifold gasket. You'll have to take that guy off....then fuel rail and injectors come into play too....if you're no DIY guy, get a good independent garage to service it for you. My dealer wanted $600 for this job. All my parts (Kit) cost me about $110 and I paid my indy about $150 to do the whole job. Car runs better now and am relieved that I probably won't have the RMS (rear main seal) to contend with in my car's future.

MadeInJapan is correct and he has a good technician. Most dealerships don't offer a PCV/flame trap service item. This system will put all your oil through your throttle if it gets bad enough or worse blow seals. The main problem is the vacuum supply gets clogged under the intake (17mm hollow screw next to dipstick tube) and should be getting checked at regular service intervals. As for your 98XC not getting full BOOST it is a 5254T low pressure turbo and doesn't have the kick of the T-5. The only other thing to check is your wastegate setting if you don't have a check engine light.
