Buzzing on acceleration

Post by gherman »

When doing a hard acceleration, I hit some metal part's resonant frequency and get a buzzing akin to a 5-needle tatoo gun. It seems to come from the engine compartment. I checked the heat shields beneath the car, and all seem intact. The muffler (resonator?) between the catylitic converter and the muffler has an outer cover that is rusting away, but I can spy no metal-on-metal vibration-causing anamoly. I tried peering in the engine compartment, but can't mimic the sound in neutral. Any thoughts?

Did you ever figure this out? My 2003 S40 displays the same symptoms.

Never found it. I fixed it by turning up the radio volume.
