Hi, my wife and I are looking to get a used 04-06 XC90 2.5T. I understand '06 is the last year of the 2.5T and all the "bugs" have been worked out. Are they any issues particular to '04 that we should be aware of?
Thanks!

Inspected a 2005 XC90 2.5T AWD with 63K miles this evening. Overall car seems to be in very good condition inside-out, and engine is quite peppy despite a filthy engine bay. I noticed a few things:
- a CD is stuck inside the player - how can I get it out?
- noticeable oily film under power steering reservoir - could it be leaking?
- pulled out the dipstick and noticed some crud stuck in the curved sections - does this reflect the internals of the engine?
- coolant reservoir is kinda dirty/cloudy - can't say how long the coolant has been in the system.
- driver side upper spring seat is starting to show a gap compared to other side. How difficult is it to work the XC90 struts? I've done the struts on my 850s.
- rear bearing haven't been changed yet - at what mileage are these expected to go? I understand this is a common issue with XC90 2.5Ts
Comments? Thanks!

Often the cd player will eject if it is removed and turned upside down and plugged back in.
The power steering lines to reservoir use Oetiker clamps and the fix is usually to use regular worm screw clamps.
A decreased mileage interval oil service routine for a 3-4 changes will likely take care of most any problem from the poor attention.
Not unusual for 6 year old vehicle to have crap looking coolant. Flush and refill will take care of it.
The front suspension is identical to the 850 but struts are longer and springs stronger.
The rear wheel bearings do have a higher replacement rate but I know of lots of 150K+ mile xc90's with originals on rears and no signs of needing new ones.

Thanks jimmy57!
One more thing - the seller mentioned he has used the car to tow a small utility trailer weighing 2700 lbs "around town". How much of this would affect the lifespan of the tranny?
