How involved is this to replace. Are there any write-ups with photos on here. Also will this effect drivability i.e. cause car to stall and not run. Thanks Bill

I would put it into the "not a huge deal" category but it is certainly more involved than an oil change. The intake manifold will need to come off to get access. If you have EGR that complicates things on getting the manifold off but it really isn't that big of a deal.

If you need to service your PCV system this is a dandy time to do that since the same step apply to getting to the oil trap.

Give yourself a full day and a full load of patience and you should be fine. The hardest part on the intake manifold is the bolt that is hidden behind the power steering pump, the lower bolts only need to be loosened, the bottom of the intake manifold is slotted and will lift off without completely removing the bolts.

Be sure to get a new intake manifold gasket and I would also suggest a new throttle body gasket since it is also a great time to clean the throttle body. If you have EGR you will need a new gasket for the EGR valve as well.

Thanks, I do need to do pcv system. So it will have to be all at once. How do i know if I have EGR? Car is 1997 850 non-turbo. Also do I have to worry about car leaving me stranded until I can get to it? Thanks, Bill

If you have EGR you will see the valve on the bottom side of the intake manifold, directly behind the throttle body.
