2005 S40 seems to be starving for fuel at freeway speeds

Post by my2005s40 »

Hello,
I am new to the forum. I have a 2005 S40 and have a problem that seems to show up at freeway speed. The engine seems to be starving itself and I get a slight rattle and can only maintain about 45-50MPH and then the engine stops. I am able to retart after leting it sit for awhile. Some times it will run great for awhile and act normal, as it is doing right now, but I am planning a trip and will be traveling across the U.S. so I need to fix the problem before I leave. I think it is the fuel filter or maybe fuel pump. Need advise on replacing both. Is it a hard job or is it something I can handle myself?
