1999 s 80 t6 lack of top end power

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

1999 s 80 t6 lack of top end power

Post by ADB »

Hi, 1999 volvo s80 t6 154k miles, Engine idles smooth, but it has a slight shutter when I accelerate hard and does not have follow through power when I floor the gas pedal, low end power seems fine, just when I floor the car around _+4000 rpm when the thin turbo is supposed to kick in the power curve flattens.
Any Ideas?
Thanks

Check all vacumn hoses, replace as necessary. Special attention to Turbo Control Valve and Compressor By-Pass Valve spring. Have you changed your Flam trap (PCV) lately? Clean the PTC Nipple good, and reinstall the hoses. Any error codes from Check Eng Light? You could have multiple problems, but I'll start there and bring your car to stage zero. If this problem remains, I guess is TCV and/CBV spring. IPD sells a HD TCV and CBV kit with instructions.

Thanks Juan62, I have the chek engine light on with code emisssion control service required. I checked for vaccuum leaks with a spray can and all seemed ok, I am not familiar with turbos and the PCV on this car (I just got it ) but I will do some research.

I found code P0303 cyl.# 3 missfire, I'll change the plugs and see if it helps.

dont bother changing plugs, yet. Swap coils 2 & 3 and see if the code changes. Its likely a coil anyway.

Thanks for the replies,
I turns out the plugs were very old. I replaced with Bosch Platinum plus and replaced coil #3 ( it seemed that the problem was plugs only but I wanted to be safe). The car now runs great no more check engine light and lots of smooth power.

Now I noticed that there is some smoke coming out of the eng. oil dipstick tube. I understand I need to service the Pvc box, can I just install a breather vent on the engine like on the good old 60-70s cars and save myself all the work to replace the box?
