How to take out the starter
Does anyone have iadvice on ways to get to the starter on a 98 S70 Turbo. I saw a post about having to take out the manifold to get to the starter. Is there an easier way, maybe take out the fan shroud? Ive never taken one out on this car before, any advice will be helpful.

What you can do is park the car overnight and don't touch it. In the morning, almost all of the fuel pressure will have drained off. Disconnect the battery and then check the schraeder valve at the end of the fuel rail on the drivers side. You shouldn't get any fuel to come out or maybe a tiny bit at most.
Go to the back of the motor on the passenger side and you'll find a bracket for the fuel lines. Remove the brackets (10mm?) (there may be either one or two).
Pry off the protective cover for the fuel rail and then disconnect the wiring harnesses on the injectors. Then gently pull up on the fuel rail. Once you pull the rail you can actually rotate it counterclockwise to clear the injectors and place it on top of the motor. Make sure NOTHING comes in contact with the injector nozzles or else you'll be buying new ones.
Make sure you buy upper and lower seals for the injectors so you can replace them when you put everything back together.
Hope that helps...

Disconnect the battery and wires going to the starter. If air charge tube is in the way you can remove it. I am not looking at a S-70 turbo right now but sure that I have never had to remove intake to R&R a starter. There might be a bracket on the passenger side of starter with a 12mm bolt into the front of the engine and two 10mm nuts onto the starter. Remove two 13mm stud bolts that hold starter in place and slide out. New starter goes in reverse order.

you can get the starter out w/o r and r the intake. at least this is true for a 97 850. you pull it out from the right side. you have to turn it in a manner that it will fit between the fan shroud and the other stuff. i did it last month. let me know if you need more info
