newbie...just acquired 83 240GLT coupe

hey everyone, just joined and have some Q's about my newest volvo acquisition: a 1983 240 GLTurbo. Got it for 20 bucks  , the guy wanted it off his property and was only asking me for one dollar for it but I just pulled out a 20 and gave it to him. I even got a clear title w/the car! Anyway, the car sat for about ten years on his farm, beaten by the sun, tires were all flat and did not take any air. Had a fun time pulling it into my trailer  . The PO told me it had a bad fuel pump and that's why they parked it. Sure enough, I pulled the pump and it's frozen with rust in it. Ok, so what steps should I take in getting this thing on the road since it sat for so long? Obviously, I'll get a new pump for it first, and some tires, but I want to hear it run first. The interior is not too bad, just super dusty. I found a bunch of paperwork on the car from overseas, I believe this car was inported into the US by the PO, according to some documents I found. This thing looks awesome, can't wait to get it on the road! Any imput welcome!! Awesome site! I'll post pix asap...

try www.fpcgroton.com for parts they are the least expensive place I have found. I would drain all the old gas and replace. You will probably have to buy a battery as well. Can you turn the engine over by hand? As soon as you get it warmed up I would change all the fluids, then drive a while to see what else it needs.

Speaking of fuel pumps, your car has two of them. It has two fuel filters, too. One pump is in the fuel tank (in-tank pump), the other is under the car somewhere (main fuel pump). Since you will be draining the tank, you should pull the fuel tank pick up pump and sender unit assembly while you are at it. Then replace the in-tank pump and filter sock. Then, don't forget the main fuel filter, as well. It is best to start with all of these replaced at once.

thanx for the replies guys...I will replace both pumps and filters and the engine turns by hand, well, not exactly, I put a socket on the crank pulley and turned it. It seems to still have good compression too!! I'll check out that link and order the parts...thanx again.

P.S. When I pulled the in-tank pump, I noticed that the sphere looking float was full of gas, this means it has a hole and needs to be replaced...where can I find one of these??

In-tank pump and strainer are in. Main fuel pump should be here tomorrow(tue 21st). Got a little impatient and sprayed some carb cleaner on the throttle body and cranked it and the Volvo ran!!!!   I can't believe that a car that sat for over ten years started up this easy!! Only a freakin Volvo....
