Removing the rear seat back using the little red clips!

Getting ready to leave on a trip and tried to remove the seatbacks as the salesman showed me---can't get the red plastic clips to do anything. Guess I wasn't playing very good attention. It seemed very easy when he did it---am I not using enough force? Any help really appreciated!
