Hi,
New to this group but a quick prowl around suggests you guys are a good gang to ask.
Finally decided to replace my beloved '87 Mercedes 300TD wagon. After nearly 300kmi (engine and transmission just as strong as the day I purchased this tank 10 years ago!), the suspension and other running gear will take a BIG investment to bring up from what is now a local cruiser to something that can be once again counted on for the occasional long distance trip.
In any case, I've had a long previous life with Volvos, owning several 122s and even restored an old '61 Amazon (B16 engine and 6V electrics). Moved on to other makes after a few 240s. Came to appreciate these cars as wonderfully honest, reliable and easy to work on.
Looking to spend around $10K (+/-) so dropped by the local used car place for a look. Couple of friends have purchase used Volvos from this place and found them to be honest. Pretty much turn over cars that have been put up by dealers.
They have a couple of wagons and I'm looking for some current advise on which direction I should go (or keep looking is an option of course). Both candidates have about 60kmi. One is a '00 V70 XC while the other is a '01 V70 2.3T. The XC seems the better of the two based on ride etc. but I am drawn to the newer body style.
Advise?
Thanks in advance!
Model advise
forget everything you remember. Don't look at any AWD pre-2003 period. to be sussinct - CRAP! 2001 unofficially generally regarded as the worst model year across the board for quality....stick with V70 T-5 '02 & up....safest bet but trust me......it ain't no 240.
