Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

HELP!!!!! a/c quirks

Post by 01s80bum »

so ive read and read and read on this forum as well as others, and so far it seems as tho the common fixes when the compressor runs for a few minutes then cuts out leaving you with no a/c whatsoever is that the system is low on freon or the shims on the compressor... and from what i have come to find out with trying to fix this problem is that no one has said anything about how to use the bread clip shims on a 2.9 S80, its all for the S60, and the car is in the perfect range with freon(when the a/c does run its ice cold and works perfect, but only for about 5 mins) as of this post its the beginning of of august in NJ and current its 97 with a heat index of 104 and the nice dark charcoal leather in my car is no longer my friend, quite the contrary its my biggest enemy as the dark color draws in even more heat.

I was told it was possibly the ambient temperature sensor, so i replaced those, car sat running with the a/c on for about 30 mins with no problems, but once i got in to drive the a/c pretty much immediately cut out

PLEASE!!!!! can anyone point me in a direction to go??? because as of this point i dont even want to drive my poor car as the heat is gettin unbearable in it

How do you know that the freon is in range? I think that if there is too much Freon this will cause too much pressure within the system. When this happens, the compressor will shut down to protect itself.
