It's hard to tell what the elapsed time is because my camera was shaking. Looking at them with a stopwatch, I'd say 7.5 seconds for the both.
Method: brake + accelerator, then release brake (not parking brake!)
Transmission Setting: Econ, then Sport
This was a lonely, deserted road. Do not attempt. Closed course. Professional driver.
Run #1
Transmission mode: Econ
Run #2
Transmission mode: Sport
I'd just done Mobil 1 10-30 oil and Mann filter change, cleaned my K&N air filter and felt like I needed some bugs in my teeth.
My 850 has no chip or exhaust, but does have a cold air intake (with the red funnel since removed -- it proved to just get in the way).

Your T5 is running like I would expect from a well keep example. It would be nice to get 0-60 in the sub 6 range as that feels fast.
Life would be enjoyable if it wasn't so painful to live.

Even with the brake-clutching, I'm glad to see yours picks up about as slowly as mine does til 25-30 mph.
After that, it's like WARP SPEED!!!
I feel like mine has lost a bit of pep it had back when it had 120,000 miles on it, but it's still pretty freaking quick.

I found a Seafoam-like product at Checker/O'Reilly and have been using it to clean out intake/combustion/injectors just like Seafoam administered through the vacuum tree. More on that within 48 hours, I promise. So that helps.
The K&N helps, and you're entirely free to disagree with me on that, it being one of the DO / DON'T conflicts we have from time to time (oil types, fuel additives, mpg, etc.).
And the cold air intake helps. Same as above, disagree if you care to
. For some reason, she came from the factory with an R front spoiler, so that might help at higher speeds with directing wind efficiently.
In the world of serious or semi-serious street racing though, that's peanuts, as well all know. "Speed costs money. How fast do you want to go?" -- ancient Chinese proverb.
Unfortunately, Arrow, my 850 doesn't look as good as she runs. Too many apartment parking spaces, if I had to blame one thing. People are vindictive, uncaring animals sometimes. Someone twisted off my headlight wiper and kicked/scuffed the rear door with dirty shoes (no dent, but deep abrasions in the clearcoat) 3 years ago. Then there are the various chips and tiny dents here and there. And the rear spoiler's shine is gone. It's flat black now from sun bleaching (I'm guessing).

Justin, I don't think we'll ever agree more on a facet of our Gen One FWD turbo Volvos. Off the line is dogfood. But beware the stock 1975-2005-ish pony car* or Civic Si (just examples) that challenges us at say 40mph. When my 850 kicks down to first, the turbo spools up quickly and halfway through second my neck's getting strained. I love it.jblackburn wrote:Even with the brake-clutching, I'm glad to see yours picks up about as slowly as mine does til 25-30 mph.

That would be nice. Chip and exhaust, chip and exhaust. Twelve hundred dollars, give or take. That's only $800 per second (less) to 60mph.Red-Arrow wrote:Your T5 is running like I would expect from a well keep example. It would be nice to get 0-60 in the sub 6 range as that feels fast.

If you really want that 25-30 fixed you need to defeat the low boost in low gears. I'll have to dig around but the wire that goes from TCM to ECM that is used to request no TCV operation which gives the default low wastegate pressure setting can be interrupted with a dash switch. You do not want this function defeated all the time as it makes for WAY too easy wheel spin.
Not applicable to any after 1998 model year as the intro of the CAN computer linkage did away with all the individual wire fun you could have.

Uh, Jimmy, if you can dig up how to do this you'll have a 3-day Volvo 850 owner festival honoring you in front of your house one day. I'll organize it.jimmy57 wrote:If you really want that 25-30 fixed you need to defeat the low boost in low gears. Not bad for an old lady.
I was just curious and had an open road after leaving work yesterday. That's like 5 sec from 20-60 and looks like yours takes 2.5 from 0-20. Don't really have anywhere I can do an actual 0-60 test.
Interesting note, Matt - the shift point on my S70's first gear is just a teeny bit higher (300 rpm or so) than your 850's. This was in E mode; I swear I've seen it touch 6 in 1st gear.
