Which valve? ..."major leak" code

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

Which valve? ..."major leak" code

Post by grensuvs »

Hello,

My '99 S80 had ECM-4308 "major leak" code which tech says is an evaporative valve in the emission system that needs to be replaced because it sticks open/closed.

Data bases list "valve" and "shut-off valve" in the emission area; my question is, which one is it? Or do you have to buy a whole part that contains both?

Thanks.

More then likely it is the EVAP purge valve. These fail like this on almost every volvo.

Yes, thank you Andrew. According to OEMParts database, it is the "valve" rather than the "shut-off valve."
Thanks much.

Hi Andrew,

'Didn't realize you worked for a parts supplier so checked your database...

I can't find it on your website for my car. 'Can't get your website to accept Volvo and S80 turbo, and "valve" in the search box. "Purge valve" in search doesn't produce the right year/car.

Does your co. not sell them for '99 S80 t6?

This site is good to help locate and compare parts and prices.

Andrew I also have the same code "EVAP major leak" however I have not taken it in. Before I order your part # 9470775 is there anything else I should look at? I understand there is a hose somewhere near the right rear of the car that also can go bad? Have read something about a recall campaign for a software update if you have a certain code stored? I talked with the local Volvo stealer and all they will say is bring it in we will charge you $235 OMG and if it is covered your good if not you pay! Volvo seems to have the same problem with their dealers that the Domestics have. Oh BTW do you have the o-ring kit for the dreaded body clunk under the front seats? Would like to replace them before the snow fly's here in NW Ohio.

Anyway thanks for any help.
