98 S70 GLT SAS Delete- Getting my ducks in a row

Post by joegekko »

I'm getting ready to do the SAS delete on my 1998 S70 GLT, and I just need to make sure that I've got everything straight. There is some conflicting/unclear information floating around on the internets, and I'd hate to be a victim of my own ignorance.

The procedure for my car should be to solder the anode (+) end of a 1N4003 diode to ECU pin A32, and solder the cathode (-, the side with the stripe) end to ECU pin B38.

Assuming that is correct (and I'm relatively sure that it is), does anyone know the wire colors on the ECU harness that correspond to these pins? I don't really want to crack the ECU open, and would much rather jump the wires with the diode than the actual ECU pins.

Also, I believe the exhaust bung will receive a M16-2.0 bolt as a plug, but what grade should be used? And what length?

Thanks in advance. I've learned so much from this site already, this would really be the cherry on top.

-Joe

Wrong.

It's A32 to A37.

This is the write-up at VS: http://volvospeed.com/vs_forum/index.ph ... try1877140

They have instructions for doing it in the ECU and between the corresponding wires.

As for plugging the bung, you can get a 16 x 1.5 drain plug at Advance. Use a copper crush washer and some High-temp RTV as well.

Are you ABSOLUTELY certain? There are definitely different pins to jump, depending on the year of the vehicle and if it's Motronic 4.3 or 4.4. The year and type of vehicle (850 or V70) is NOT specified anywhere in the thread you linked. I know, I read through it 5 or 6 times before I started this one.

That's why I'm asking the question. On some vehicles you jump A32 and A37, and on some you jump A32 and B38. Like I said, conflicting information absolutely abounds concerning this (seemingly simple!) modification.

If you reference the original thread on that other Volvo site concerning the SAS delete, it lists A32 and B38 as the pins to jump for 1998 cars... So again, not to be rude, but ARE YOU SURE that it's A32 and A37 on a 1998 S70 GLT?

The A32 to B38 doesnt work, that is activated when the pump signal is set. You want it on the A32 to A37 where is activates when the vacuum solenoid is set.

If you look at Binglax, he did it on 3 98' 70series vehicles.

A32 to A37 is correct for OUR vehicles, I have the same car. Haven't done the delete yet, as I'm waiting for a few other parts to do other mods at the same time.

Awesome, guys. Totally cool, I'll probably pick up some taps-with-goop from The Shack and do this some time this week. That would give me a little leeway.

Do either one of you know if the wiring is still A32 Green/Black and A37 Blue/Purple for a '98?

Real quick- Finally got around to doing this about 500 miles ago. I wound up jumping the pins inside the ECU case, since I could never verify the wire colors on the harness.

Everything seems to be working. Thanks for your help, everybody.

Does anyone know what pins it is for a 97 850? Is it still A32 and A37 like it is for your S70?
I have my car torn apart at the moment and would really like to wrap this up so I can use it tomorrow.

Doing this SAS delete today, I've the ECU out and apart on the table but I'm not clear on the pins. I'm doing it on my 98 V70R which this post indicates as being pins A32 and A37 but can I assume that the anode still goes to A32 and it's the cathode is on A37 instead of B38?
