Who makes OEM timing belt tensioner - 1993 940?

Post by jersey240 »

I'm getting ready to replace the timing belt on a 1993 940 turbo with 175k.

Who makes the OEM tensioner?

Looked for this info the other day but didn't find a concrete answer. Avoided the GMB one that FCP stocks - it might be okay, but didn't sound like they were the OEM. Also avoided the brands that came up on generic auto parts sites, as well as ordering one from the dealer for $80.

Since Contitech / Continental makes the OEM timing belt, I just ordered a Contitech one for $30. Hope this is the right brand.

Thanks for any input.

I need one for my '96 850; where did you find it for $30.00?

The 940 tensioner seems to be cheaper than that for the 850 on most parts sites. IPD - $52.28; FCP $51.61.

Thanks, Bill! I couldn't find that information anywhere.

JimBee - Like Bill mentioned, your part will be more expensive. But check this thread out from the 850 forum. Specifically the list kcodyjr posted roughly halfway down the 2nd page. Aisin makes the OEM tensioner.

If anyone's looking for a roughly $30 Contitech tensioner for a '93 940, though, I got it at IPD. It actually didn't come up right away when I typed it into the search box. But when I logged into my account, picked the 940 from My Garage, and then searched for a tensioner, it showed up.
