Hi there!
I recently took my S80 2000, 2.9l in for a checkup. I am hearing "spring" or "clunking" noises when driving over uneven surfaces or pot holes. I can also sometimes hear noises when turning, specifically if turning in an up or downhill or if the car is not level. The Volvo mechanic had the car for over 2 hours and then notified me that the Lower Control Arm Bushings (4 total), as well as the driver side lower Ball Joint need to be replaced. The job for the Control Arm Bushings is $1340 and the job for the Ball Joint is $230. Total quote comes to $1570.
I have done some initial checking around, and some mechanics suggests it might be cheaper to just replace the actual Control Arms both sides rather than the bushings.
Any help or input on this would be greatly appreciated! I feel that $1570 is very high for the job and hoping to get some good tips here! Thanks guys!

you can get replacement control arms from amazon for $80 a piece (Dorman 520-945 Control Arm LEFT SIDE, and Dorman 520-946 Control Arm RIGHT SIDE) call joints are $35 a piece (Beck Arnley 101-5042 Lower Ball Joint). That is $230 for parts and find a good shop to install them (not the dealer). I had these installed at my friends shop and only took a few hours labor.
