(P) light comes on braking

Post by tibi9999 »

When I press the brake I can hear little clicks near break pedal (like a relay does) and the (P) light on dashboard comes on. And is happening only few days. Anybody any ideas? Otherwise I can't feel different in braking.

The shifter locking function that prevents gear lever from being moved out of Park position without depressing brake does click and that is normal. The P light is a puzzle. Are you referring to the Letter P in the display in bottom of the tachometer? It should illuminated the whole time it is in Park position. Is the display dashes (---) until you step on brake?

It's a manual gearbox so I don't think that's it. But maybe the brake pads are worn and that's how is appearing. I will check the pads out and let you know.

There is no wear sensor on pads but if brake fuid is low the float may bob and turn on the warning light for brake fluid level.
The symbol for low fluid lamp is different for Euro markets compared to USA. The lamp on most models here is "BRAKE".
I would think that is park brake lamp. Is the park brake switch extra sensitive on that car?

It is the park brake light that's right but I disconnected the wire from the handbrake just to see if that is causing the trouble but still the same. The fluid level maybe the one. I check it out and let u know. Tx.
