dear All,

i am really frustrated, i just replaced the engine in my car, it been about 3 days since i have been driving it and now the car wont start. when i went to pick the car earlier from the mechanic the car took some time to start however the mechanic siad that it not a big deal and that it should get better, for the last 3 days the car would start but take it time to fire up, however today it simply refuses to start. i have spent a lot of money as it is on this car and now i dont know what wrong. any advice or help woudl really be appreciated. i am frustrated!

Ok so i spoke with my mechanic he says it is a cam shaft sensor problem, and that the reason the car wont start. i am really concerned with what he says now and his ethics, he kept the car for almost 2 months, and i have had it for 3 days. anyone know what the cam shaft sensor is and what does it have to do with starting up the engine. as i mentioned earlier i just got the engine replaced. thank you

Damn, No one here as any input. this forum used to be very helpful in the past. come on guys, some should know something.

i just dont trust mechanics no more hoping someone here can help. thanks

There are quite a few things that would cause your car not to start. Without seeing it, I wouldn't know where to start. Based on what you have said, I would have the car removed from that mechanics shop and taken back to your house. If this guy couldn't give it back to you starting trouble free, he ain't worth his own salt. I certainly wouldnt' trust a mechanic who said that a condition would correct itself over time. It is possible that this guy has done something to the car to try to milk more money out of you.

If you are a do-it-yourselfer, get the car home, buy some latex gloves and start getting your hands dirty. If not, try to find another mechanic in your area, especially someone trained to work on Volvo's. Let us know what you decide to do and what you find. Then we can dig deeper into this.

yes i agree with you, i have benn thinking that too. howeve i spoke with the mechanie today and he said that the crank shaft sensor and the flexa plate( could be spelling it wrong) was the problem. he said he fixed it and the car should be all set.

the mechanic wants more money, so i dont know. anywas i hope the problem is fixed. i really like my car and i dont want it to go to waste.

hey cage, if you get latex gloves, you won't be able to get your hands dirty!! :lol: :lol: :twisted: Didn't the work on your car come with some kind of warranty???

according to the mechanic i did have warranty, however he says this is a different problem and has nothing to do with the engine replacment. i think it myfault too i should have nto taken the care when it was not even starting right in teh first place, but was desperate to get my car.

thanks for the tip on the latex glove. i keep that in mind :roll:

ok so i found out the problem. the mechanic put in a 1992 engine in my 94, however he did not change the fly wheel, this led to the crank shaft sensor not reading and passing enough voltage.

he somehow did some kind of quick patch up job with silicion and handed me the car, hence the trouble i had in starting the car. the car is fixed now with the proper fly wheel and crank shaft sensor.

i now have to go pick up my car from a different shop, since my mechanic took the liberty of dropping it off there without telling me and stiffing me with the bill, in addition to the $1800 that i paid him. anywas just wanted to pass the info.

Now thats' what I call a cute move. This guy, who should know better, makes an error of omission doing a job, then subs the rework out to someone else so he doesn't have to eat the work or the cost. I would take this guy to small claims court to recoup your added expense. What a smuck! No, ...make that Putz!

this is why I am the only one that touches my vehicles...you need to kick some "mechanic" a$$ ese!!! Also, I have heard somewhere sometime that a vehicle that gets installed an engine older that the vehicle's year itself will never pass inspection, watch out for that...my $.02
