850 T5 Estate Erratic Cold Startup Idle

Post by MoSsElMaN »

Hello folks........i need some help with my 1996 850 T5 Estate OBD II......

Whenever i start the engine from cold, the idle will somewhat be erratic.....it hunts between 1000rpm to 1300rpm. During this period, the exhaust fumes smells very very rich. Its made worse when the A/C compressor kicks in. I've already replaced all the vacuum hoses with quality silicone items....

However the problem is somewhat lessened when the engine is fully warmed up. But nevertheless the problem still remains.

so far i can think of the following problem areas:
1) IAC valve (idle control valve)

btw, the dashboard doesnt have any warning lights on....which for this simple reason leaves me clueless?

change oxygen sensor or

as posted sonewhere else, unscrew oxygen sensor, burn with welding torch and then clean with brake cleaner. seems to work for that fella. no guarantees you just might crack open your sensor if you the rate of increase/decrease of temp is too fast.

Get the codes read if you can -- not all codes trigger dash lights. And check vacuum lines.
Help keep MVS on the web -> click sponsors' links here on MVS when you buy from them.

Also -> Amazon link
. Click that when you go to buy something on Amazon and MVS gets a cut!
