C70 seat spring..... how to get back in?

Post by theVOLVO »

so the seat stopped working one day, i couldnt figure it out for a while until i noticed a metal arm near where a the spring fell out, so i pushed the lever down and it hits the micro switch allowing you to move the seat, my question is how do you get that spring back in, or can i just bypass the switch some how? its very frustrating getting people in and out of back seats of the car.

thanks

I know absolutely nothing about the C series cars but I think they are much like the 850 / V / S series.

I am having trouble figuring out the original post.

Is a front seat stuck in the full recline position and won't come up? If so the chances are the cable from the recline motor has crapped out - it is a common problem. The seat cushion has many springs but that should in no way impede people from getting in and out of the car - the seat will just feel funny when you sit on it.

If the seat is fully reclined please advise and I can give you a couple of links on how to fix it.

From the sounds of it, the seat is in the normal position. When he wants to let someone into the back seat, he hits the lever and the seat should move forward. Unfortunately, it sounds like it is not doing that anymore.

My spring fell out too but the actual mount for the spring on the seat had broken. I used some cable ties to fix the issue, one end on the spring and another to a secure location on the seat. It took several tries to find the right length but now it works like a charm.

I believe if you took it to Volvo they would remove the seat and attach the spring with a screw but I thought the cable tie was quicker :)

the seat release works fine but when you hold it up the seats move up then you lay the seat back down and it wont move, when i hold the metal piece that the spring was connected to against the micro switch all the seat functions work, i belive the spring is there to hold the micro switch down when the seat is at rest, and i by pass the switch so i casn move the seat no matter what.?

My convertable had this problem when I first got it.I f you can find a plactic tie or something to hold it down I don't think you would have to bypass it.I used the plastic tie on mine and it has worked well over a year now.I found the fix on a different website. Some people used tape, I tried that but didn't work for me.I hope this helps.
