Child Seat LATCH anchors

Post by Saulnier »

Hello to all. I am looking to purchase a Volvo in the next 2 weeks.
I need to know what year the Child Safety Seat LATCH became standard on Volvo.
I think the US law went into effect in 2002 but I drove an 04 S60 today that did not have the LATCH anchors in the back seat for child safety seats.
I called Volvo North America and was told that it was not standard till 05......
Thought all cars had to have it by 02.....

Looking at the S40, S60, S80
Must have LATCH
Must have less than 100K miles
I have around 10K-12K tops to spend.

BTW I am in the Houston Texas area.
Been lurking on the forum for about a month and talking with my brother in San Diego who has an S60 and had an 850.
He has had good luck with both driving 25-30K mile per year.

Welcome to Matthew's Volvo Site.

The LATCH system was originally called ISOFIX, a term still used in Europe so your reference to LATCH caught me out.

Your National Highway Traffic Safety Administration states that nearly every car seat and most vehicles manufactured since September 1, 2002, are required to have the LATCH system. This would then apply to model years 2003 on as they would appear in September 2002.

I am a little puzzled about the 2004 S60 being without the system as the ISOFIX list that I have shows the S60 was fitted with the system from week 36 of 2000. The S40 shows as fitted from 2003 and the S80 from 2001.

Bill, thanks for the reply. I am puzzled as well as to why I was unable to find the attachment points for the isofix/LATCH.
I am really coming to appreciate the cars as I drive more of them.
I was about 5 minutes too late on test driving an S40 today that I would have bought on the spot.
I will keep looking.

Thanks

Chris
