If you did not buy a Volvo....

Post by FCPEURO »

Hey Guys and Gals,

This forum has been slow lately so I thought I would bring it back to life a little bit. So I have a question for everyone.

If you did not buy a Volvo, what would you have brought?

Let me here your thoughts.

I very nearly bought a Jeep Cherokee. I LOVE old Jeeps :D

I'm now thinking I want either a Ford Focus or Chevy Cruze as my next car.

My wife and I both had Jeep Cherokees when we met, hers was a two door and we replaced it with a Grand Cherokee with the intro of our daughter. Mine got traded on a pick-up, but we probably would still be buying Jeeps.

I usually only buy Chrysler. We have a 2010 Wrangler and an 07 300C.

My old man is a Chrysler retiree, and being from Michigan you buy what made your upbringing possible.

It is funny that you say that. I am thinking of the same two cars as my next car. I like the look of the focus but the 2013 Chevy Cruze Diesel is suppose to be awesome. 160 HP and 165 TQ at 50 MPG HW is going to be nice.

Hmmm...I wasn't aware they were making a diesel one in the near future!

I actually like the 1.8L over the 1.4 turbo. The auto transmission on the 1.4 is a complete IDIOT - constantly shifting at 5000 RPM and screaming for no reason. The 1.8 has a bit of low-end power and I was able to shift the manual at 3000 RPM or so and keep up with traffic decently. The 6-speed manual is a nice transmission and I can't understand why they don't put it in anything over the LS models unless you get the ECO. Sigh.

The Focus has a very nice, peppy engine - 160 hp. It's a bit buzzy, but it's fun to drive (again, in a stick). I felt like the Cruze handles better and is more fun to throw around corners. And the interior is nicer in the Chevy (gasp - the Cobalt was a worthless piece of crap!)

ive always like the mid 90s jeeps, but, my experience with the older and newer has been horrible. We had a very low mileage grand cherokee 04' ( piece of junk ) I wont buy another. My wife currently drives a 01 focus zx3, 168k miles and its been the best car weve had. It's great on gas, great in the winter, etc. Shes wanting another vehicle and im trying to talk her out of it.

I heard good things about the ECO as long as you get it with a manual. I know the auto is crap. Did you drive the auto or manual ECO?

I have always wanted to have a GTI but I am now leaning more towards the TDi Manual. Maybe even a sports wagon Jetta TDi. I wish the interior wasn't so crappy in the remodeled jetta.
