Remote starter

I am sure this can not be a new topic but could not find a thread on the subject.

Now that "she who should not be argued with" has to leave the house at 0400 hours (new England winter arrived this week!!), her parting words today were remote starter would be better than going out and starting it herself.

I am a little nervous about it naturally....mmmm, the wrath of the Mrs or the wrath of a p*@%#^d off 850 T5 with 64k that does not like being interfered with.

Advice appreciated and if it is ok...best model etc.

If you choose to pull the trigger and buy one choose a quality shop and pay the extra. The guys in Chicago that did my son's car just hacked the crap out of the wiring harness.

My 850 turbo has an "autostart" remote starter. It was installed by the previous owner but has been working flawlessly for me since 2003.
Like I said the manufacturer is Autostart but im unsure of the exact model. They are very handy during canadian winters in the east coast!

There's not really much to these things.
Think of it as an imaginary person turning an invisible key for you.
The system just piggy backs the ignition switch.
They also reach out to monitor RPM, the hood and brake pedal.
It you have a stick, it gets a little trickier, but the technology is out there!

As posted above, INSTALLATION IS EVERYTHING with these systems!
Find someone with years of autostart experience that's not
afraid to offer a solid, heavy duty warranty.

They're pretty cool...I think she'll like it!

Thanks for all advice. My local indie Volvo mechanic also said he sees too many with problems...so we decided not to go down this road. I am relieved and Mrs a little OK after I suggested she reverse onto the drive so that driver's door is closer to the front door.

Hey, I'm not suggesting that auto starts are bad.
These things rock! (And these days, they've got incredible range.)
Just do some research and find a shop that knows what they're doing!
I've seen countless hack jobs by "some guy" that's been installing
stereos for his friends that have gone terribly wrong...

If you're gonna do it, be prepared to pay for quality work.
It's well worth it. (And it works with A/C, too!)

You'll smile a little every time you push the button.
Not to mention, your wife will love ya for it.

A new Volvo S60 2005 automatic owner in the cold northeast (Maine) I am considering the purchase of the remote starter.
I appreciate all the previous input. Since this is July I think I'll be looking around for an experienced person to do the installation.

Okay, I called the Volvo dealer for Portland, Maine, to ask if they would install a remote starter in my new-used Volvo S60 and their response was unequivocal...that absolutely not would they install a remote starter in any Volvo and that no Volvo's come with remote starter, no, no, no.
So, it's going to remain a cold car until the seats warm up here along the freezing downeast Maine coast.

My next question is coming soon, it's about undercoating.

A dealer? That's probably the last place I would go for a remote starter installation.
It's just not their venue. They work very much inside the Volvo box and a starter is aftermarket.
Ask around, hit the net and check out the car stereo and alarm shops. And bear in mind that
probably 90% of'em are not to be trusted with this kind of job. Reputataion for quality is KEY.

I hate to be cynical, but quality of work is a huge part of the finished product when you
install an auto start. Take your time and find the right shop. It'll pay off in the long run.

But it really is possible, and you're gonna Love It!

( Be sure to confirm that the Heated Seated will work on remote!

Ok. But why no D.I.Y installation on the remote starters ?. At least, if there's no one to be trusted regarding good instalatio, why not owner installation procedures ? Just wondering
