"But... we just got moved to a new server." you say?
That was 18 months ago, and we'd outgrown it. Time moves quickly in the tech world.
Now MVS is on a 2GB monster, a machine at the hosting company (6sync.com) of my server administrator (vpsbuddy.com).
It's jam packed full of the latest processors and fast SCSI enterprise drives, and the latest Linux operating system. Translation: pages should load now, assuming your Internet connection isn't the bottleneck.
Mario had squeezed every bit (no pun intended haha) of performance from that older-hardware 1.5GB machine at Slicehost, and he very politely suggested the best path was to simply upgrade (instead of messing around with caching, which caused the spotty downtime Tuesday and yesterday). Actually he's too polite. I had to ask him. He never once suggested his company 6sync, for fear of being accused of upselling (I think, I haven't asked him).
Not to turn this into a Mario topic, but if you need great server administration or a great VPS server, go to Mario. He's the best I've worked with in 13+ years of Web development.
Anyway, this switch happened early this morning, and the slow page responses should be history. We might have an initial breaking in period, but so far that hasn't happened.
