01 v70 t-5 manual...ecu issues ack!

Post by capecodbuilder »

Hey all you Volvo people. Been a while since I posted last. I'm a lurker. :)
I bought a hot lil wagon with a constant spray coming out of the middle injector. It hydro-locked and bent a rod. I fixed her all up and sent the ecu to a company in Michigan. It came back the same brick that I had sent out.
I know that these ecu's can't be swapped out of a parts car, not even the dealer can "flash" a used one to recognize a new home.
My question is this; Does the ecu not recognize the new car (once swapped) because of the security system? Or is it more involved? As in...I once lost the key to my 99 s70 and threw in the ignition out of a parts car...then figured out it needed the ring around the ignition to read the key chip...and then the security box from under the steering column...then the ecu to recognize all that new stuff...only then did it start.
So would a parts car and all of the aforementioned parts make my t-5 roar? Would it have to be a manual donor car? I'm afraid to even call a dealership. A brand new ecu and a flash would probably be $1500-$2000+.
Furthermore...if I try to through this beast of a motor and 5-speed into another car, probably one with a bad automatic tranny (no shortage of those) would the ecu in the automatic car freak-out with no signal coming from the tranny?
I wish I could have worded all that more effectively. The peson who is knowledgeable enough to answer these questions is a freaking genius. Any geniuses out here? None here
Thanks in advanse for any help or comments. All the best!

It seems that the question is too convoluted. A re-do...
Does the ecu in an 01 and newer volvo need to be "married" (via the vin#) to more than just the immobilizer module in order to work? I read somewhere that it might also be matched to the throttle module. Any other thoughts? How about the manual gearbox vs the automatic. I would guess the ecu from a car with an auto would work fine without the tranny talking to it, any knowledge shared would be greatly appreciated. thanks again!

The CEM is a MAIN computer on the car and it is resident ECU for the security stuff. It is not a separate box like on the older cars. The ECM and CEM "marry" for security purposes. The Key is "married" to the CEM. Unless someone chimes in that can, or knows someone who can hack into the modules then you are pretty much stuck.
You might trying the Xemodex folks to see if they have cracked the code and can do anything with ECM's. It is a PIA but if they made it easy it wouldn't be secure.
