97 850 low idle, and no acceleration

Post by Pat_Lyons »

I have a 1997 850 with close to 175,000 miles, recently drove home on flooded roads but not anything deep enough to hurt the car. There was no problems until the next morning it had a very low idle almost to the point of stalling at stop lights, and there was no acceleration until the gas pedal was almost all the way down then the car would jump forward. I am new to volvos so I have no clue what this could be, anyone got ideas? Thanks.

Welcome to MVS,

My first thought is that your distributor cap is wet.

Is your Check Engine Light on? If so have the codes read and post them back by code number and we will do our best to help you out.

Thanks for the welcome, no check engine light on.. wet distributor cap, that could interfere with how the motor runs. Is that something that can be dried or need to be replaced all together?

Yes.

Move the airbox up and out of the way and you should be able to remove the distributor cap. Wipe it out or take a hairdryer to it. The same for both ends of your spark plug wires.
