Volvo Repair Database Sway bar bushings 850/S70

Post by elchopperfreak »

Hi
I got most of my 99 S70 T5 suspension, as we are ready to change my mechanic buddy says it needs new ball joints, question is, do they come separate or you have no other choice but to buy the whole control arm, if so, which one is the best to get???

Im also in need of the swaybar bushings, I called a local shop and they say they only come with the sway bar...who has them? And urethane I would say is better?

Thanks once more for the help

Buy the entire control arm, and buy VOLVO OEM ONLY
There are no sway bar bushings TO buy, your man is correct, they are a part of the factory sway bars

You can buy just the bushings via cheap aftermarket parts, but it looks like a real PITA to install them anyway.

I know I've seen other threads at VS about it; try a Google engine search on that site perhaps. I have the link bookmarked at work, but take a look at their "how to search" thread and try that.

Now, this is a mission, I will look for the different bushings thanks to the measurements given by another forum member.
This is the plan, I will take off the sway bar from my donor 855 (should be fairly similar, if not the same) and will go at it, lets see how much work, once I find some suitable bushings will it really take..
Maybe Ill do a How To...
Seems kinda lame spending 300 bucks on a sway bar, when all you need is a $20 buck bushings at the most.

You can tell the diameter of the front sway bar based on the color of the paint splotch, located in the middle of the bar:

front sway bar part #s, sizes, paint splotch colors:
9173982 O.Dia 20 mm (marked red)
9173983 O.Dia 21 mm (marked yellow)
9173471 O.Dia 21.5 mm (marked yellow/blue)
