Hi All:

I am new to the forum and Thought I would my first problem. I have a 97 9600 wagon with 125,000 miles. I have owned the car for three months and I do not know the history.

I Was driving into the garage today and when I got out of the car and there was a overwhelming Gas smell. It even followed me into the house. Any Idea's???

look for the leak. Follow the fuel lines and look at where they connect to the injectors. I do not think it will be hard to find.

Thanks. I though of that also, I was just wondering if it could be part of the emissions, like some type of valve.

I have a 1986 240 dl with same problem. Car had to be running with fuel under pressure. The leak was in the fuel line just behind left front wheel & was spraying gas with engine running. I talked to a retired Volvo master mechanic & he told me their was a fuel line repair kit available. He is supposed to fix it for me.

Also check out the evap system. There are a series of hoses under the car. Some are all metal. Some are a poly nylon blend of some kind. There are plastic elbows that go bad, and though my car does not have it, there is this "J hose/tube" that goes bad. Do you have any "Check engine" lights on? evap leaks should pop up on the dash.
