94 850 turbo Flame Trap?

Post by ryguy150 »

I am in need of some expertise and I thought you guys may be able to help me. There is much confusion about this. My volvo 1994 850 turbo has positive crankcase pressure building when I drive. I spit oil and blow out my dip stick after hard drives. Does my 1994 TURBO car have a flame trap that I could replace? Some people seem to think that the turbo volvos have no flame trap. thanks!

That's correct. The turbo cars do not have flame traps. You'll need to do a PCV service though. FCP Groton sells a kit, so be sure to check their site out.

You'll also need a intake manifold gasket (cheap) and possibly a throttle body gasket (also cheap) and about 7-8 hours of time if you're doing this yourself. www.fcpgroton.com as mentioned above is the place to get the stuff...all told about $140 for parts. I would call them and tell them which car you have...there are a couple of different kits for different model years.

The intake manifold has to come off (be careful with the injector tips) and the oil trap under the manifold replaced along with the other hoses. It's a dirty and tedious job. I paid to have mine done by someone. Often the nipple at the end of the air intake hose to the turbo is clogged and will take some alcohol and some pipe cleaners to get clean. Make sure they clean this out. If it's not, then all of the hose/oil trap replacement was done in vain. Good luck!
