Check Engine/Out of Gas

Post by redvolvodavid »

I ran out of gas tonight (have to rely on odometer reading at 350 miles because the gauge is broken and will cost an arm and a leg to replace, of course being a Volvo). Anyway-the check engine light came on right as this was happening and now won't go out. Is this common?
I have a 96 960

I'll bet the check engine light doesn't go off by itself at all. It can be turned off manually by resetting the diagnostic unit. Check the other thread about the check engine light, where I replied with a more thorough post.

My guess is that the diagnostic unit has just sensed a too lean mixture when the tank was running out, so it probably is nothing serious. Just reset the unit and you should be fine.
