blown head?
My intercooler hose blew out on my 940 turbo wagon last week and got a new hose for it and fixed it. THEN It Started pouring out coolant everytime the engine warms up from the back of the engine compartment but will stop pouring coolant whenever the engine shuts off and cools down. Had a guy come look at it who says he can fix it but he never actually found the leak just promised that it was the head since he pressure tested it and said everything was good. He said I would need an entire new head for it not just the gasket. I can't even find a head for this thing after making about a dozen phone calls, does this sound right? I want to make sure I'm not getting ripped off. Why would I need an entire new head?

If the head was cracked it would leak from the crack. When the engine warms so does the head and the heat causes it to expand. Blown head gaskets are much more common than a crack head as it takes a lot of heat to cause that kind of damage. There should have been several warning lights for high temp for the head to crack. The gasket however can blow simply from age. With the hose blowing out it sounds like you have a lot of pressure on the cooling system. In addition to the head and gasket you will want to make sure that the rest of the cooling system is working, thermostat, water pump, radiator fan, etc. Problems in these areas can cause the gasket to blow and the hi-temp can crack the gasket. A 2nd opinion will be your best bet, as you very well could be right that it's just the gasket that needs replaced. Good Luck
