I am a newb to Volvo and this site, but coming from subarus I love the forums and this one is a treasure chest so far! Anyway...
I have an'84 240 sedan with a manual tranny that has been diagnosed as having a bad rear diff by several others more qualified than myself. I also have an '84 240 sedan with an auto trans with a completely fine differential.
Can I put the rear diff, axle, etc from the at into the mt without modification?
Thanks in advance for any advice!!

The flange where driveshaft bolts up may be different size, this is very easy to measure and not too hard to swap if it is different.
The auto trans RE will almost certainly be a different ratio. The label with info on diff is on front of driver's axle tube. I would expect 3.54 in the manual and 3.73 in the auto. The manual car will run go better but may suffer a little in MPG.
Otherwise it is a bolt in swap.
