S80 T-6 turbo - Expectation of problem

Post by MikeinColo »

My first post...
I'm considering buying a 1999 S80 T6 with 67K miles. Two people have mentioned that turbos start wearing out around 60K miles. Is there any truth to this rumor? Is there any way to tell if a turbo is about to go out?
Thanks,
Mike

Hi Mike,

Like the 850, there may be reasons to not buy it, but it's not going to be the turbo(s). Volvo worked out all the problems that their turbos suffered in the 1980s.

My dad's '99 S80 is running well with about 50k miles. This isn't an endorsement of S80s, just a personal (second hand at that) observation. Do your homework and have it checked out by a Volvo mechanic.
Help keep MVS on the web -> click sponsors' links here on MVS when you buy from them.

Also -> Amazon link
. Click that when you go to buy something on Amazon and MVS gets a cut!

1) Nothing lasts forever,
2) Can buy whole Turbo.
3) Can buy cartridge, which fits inside turbo.
4) can buy repair kit, to recondition turbo (cheap and good option wherever labor is cheap i.e. China or DIYers better than jigsaw puzzle or model kit building.)
