First Post - Lambda Sond

Hello All!
This is my forst post on the forum, I live in Glasgow, Scotland and I am the proud owner of a big old Silver 240 Torslanda estate which I am trying to keep in good working order, it being the Fender Stratocaster of estate cars! (Estates are what North Americans call 'wagons"!)
Anyway, I am seeing my Lambda light come on suddenly, and it's stayed on continuously, which I presume means the sensor needs replaced? How many miles do these things last on average? I am trying to decide whether to buy a second hand one or a new one - it there likely to be much life in a second hand one? And do I really need a special tool to fit the thing?

Any and all advice appreciated!

A Torslanda - always wanted one but hen's teeth come to mind!!

Before pouring out money on parts have you checked for fault codes using the On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) unit in the engine compartment? This is a first step in diagnosing problems. Instructions for its use are pinned at the top of the forum. The Lambda light can be put on by other things than the sensor.

Use the OBD and post back for more information if you need it.
