pepboys service center?

Post by mxqwjskspak »

Hi, my 850s struts were not installed properly (top nuts not tight enough), since I am away at school, the only time I can get it to a shop is on a weekend, which narrows it down to basically chain stores. My question is, should I trust pep boys to re-do my strut assemblies? or should I wait and have a reputable volvo shop do it?

What makes you think the nuts are not on tight enough? The gap between the bottom of the inverted castle washer and the strut bearing is perfectly normal.

I was thinking the same thing, unless he knows for fact that the first nut under the cross nut is loose, or the crossnut itself. He could do that himself in a minute or two.

UNLESS he's getting clunking because the old spring seats were put back on, or the strut mounts themselves were bad and not replace.

Noo, my struts are moving up and down inside the strut mount and making a clunking noise. However I pulled them both out and inspected everything, and didn't find anything wrong. Im assuming their not tight enough because of the vertical play, even thought i tightened the crap out of them when I reseated them. The only other thing that could be wrong would be that I am missing a washer between the spring seat and the cross shaped nut, but I've only seen it referred to on swedish auto parts so I'm not sure if its necessary.

Did you replace the spring seats when you did the struts?

Honestly, I wouldn't let PepBoys touch my kid's bicycle, let alone my car.

Yes the spring seats were replaced. Im really trying to figure out why the strut is moving up and down inside the mount.

And yeah I'm getting the general consensus that pepboys sucks (not that I didn't know that), so I will be taking it to my indy

They're going to move a little bit. If everything is tight I wouldn't worry about it.
