They make a clunking sound when they do it, and I'm pretty sure their moving up and down too much. Thats why I was thinking that their not tight enough, because everything checks out . They are ipd springs on stock struts which I guess could be part of the problem?

Honestly, I wouldn't let PepBoys touch my kid's bicycle, let alone my car.
+1 !

Yes the spring seats were replaced. Im really trying to figure out why the strut is moving up and down inside the mount.

And yeah I'm getting the general consensus that pepboys sucks (not that I didn't know that), so I will be taking it to my indy
Good seats or cheap seats...?

When I did my spring seats a long time ago one side had the same problem as your mentioning. All I did to remedy it was torque down the top bolt on the strut to fix it(the one you can access under the hood) You need two wrenches to do it I'm sure your aware, one to hold the strut shaft and another larger one to tighten the bolt. Give that a try, hopefully it's that simple.

What tool did you use to hold the strut shaft? and yes this seems to be exactly what my problem is. I'll update when I get home for the weekend and try it out.

One big wrench to turn the nut, one small one to hold the shaft, I forget the exact size though.
